Melbourne International Comedy Festival giveaway – Francesca Martinez -What the fuck is normal?

April 12, 2012 Carly Findlay 3 Comments

I saw a fabulous show last night at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Londoner Francesca Martinez performed her stand up show “What the fuck is normal?”- a honest, moving and bloody funny account of her life being “Wobbly”. Wobbly is the label Francesca gives to her Cerebral Palsy. She believes “wobbly” is a far nicer word for a disability than its actual name.

Francesca discusses the idea of “normalising difference”, stating that nobody is normal. She abandoned labels after a life changing meeting with a stranger in a pub. Like me, she’s ok with being different. She’s an accomplished comedian, actor (she’s been on the popular TV shows Grange Hill and Extras) and writer, and captivates her audience through just being herself. She’s ballsy, romantic, compassionate, confident, smart and very funny.

I came away from her show very moved, full of big thoughts and happiness.

I’ll be doing a full review and interview here shortly. But for now I’m giving away a double pass to her show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival on Thursday night – 19 April – next week.

To enter, leave a comment below telling me the funny side of the thing that makes you different.

Entries close 5 pm Monday 16 April. You must be in Melbourne or able to get here. The winner will be the entry that makes me laugh the most.

Francesca is performing at Hairy Little Sista, 240 Little Collins Street Melbourne, until 22 April. Buy tickets to Francesca Martinez at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival here: http://www.comedyfestival.com.au/2012/season/shows/what-the-f-k-is-normal-reloaded-francesca-martinez/

    Loved her on Gordon St.

With a body temp set permanently on Sahara, I do quite like freaking out people by wearing shorts, t-shirt and thongs when it snows up here in The Dandenongs. I'm easily amused.

Oh and I did find it is possible to Vogue the other day despite being stuck in bed. Madonna would be proud.
