Some of you might know I’m writing a book! My book is a memoir – from my own experience of living and thriving with a rare, severe skin condition called ichthyosis. It’s called Say Hello and is out with Harper Collins later this year.
I am hoping that it helps young people with Ichthyosis and other facial differences, as well as parents, young women and teachers. It will talk about disability pride and identity, beauty privilege, fashion and fandom too.
The structural edits for my manuscript came back from the publisher this week, and while there is a lot of work to do, I am so excited! So excited to do the work, and more excited that my editor gets disability politics and pride – and that I don’t want to be a an inspiration. Yay! I’m so excited to get working on the second draft.
If you are interested in knowing more about the book – when it’s out, when I might be at your local bookshop, how you might be able to become a preview reader, I’d love you to sign up to my mailing list so I can send you an email. Here’s the link to sign up.
I put out my first newsletter yesterday too. It’s got a bit more detail about the book, as well as a wrap up of what I’ve been doing lately, plus some links to others’ work that I found interesting.
Thank you for being interested 🙃
Hey Carly!
Exciting news about your finished draft and the editing process. I can’t wait to read it! Would be more than happy to be a ‘preview reader’ and write about it on my blog, if you like, and perhaps recommend it as a book for our small book club. It was great to write next to you at the Nicholas Building, if only for a week or so, and wish you all the best with the upcoming publication. x Isabel
